Eldon David Pittenger, 89, of Ridgewood Drive, Willard died Sunday morning, September 30, 2018 in The Willows at Willard after a one-month illness. Eldon was born June 22, 1929 in Weller Twp., Richland County and was the son of the late Curtis L. and H. Marie (Wolford) Pittenger. He was a 1947 graduate of Union High School and retired in 1992 from Newman Technologies of Mansfield. He had previously worked 16 years at Westinghouse and 14 years at ThermoDisc, both of Mansfield. He retired to Sun City, AZ before moving to Willard in 2012 to be closer to family. Eldon and his family enjoyed camping, especially in the Mifflin area. On July 16, 1950 Eldon married Norma Mitchell in a double-ring ceremony with her sister, Joy and James Wheaton, in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Mansfield. He was a former member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Mansfield and Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Arizona. He currently attends Trinity Lutheran Church, Willard.
Eldon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Norma Mitchell Pittenger; three sons: Timothy Pittenger of Mansfield, Gary (Rose) Pittenger of Willard, and Rick (Shelly) Pittenger of Mansfield; three granddaughters: Cathy (Todd) Hamons of Willard, Tammy (Brian) Legg of Monroeville, and Ticy (Chris) Walters of Upper Sandusky; nine great-grandchildren: Cathern, Morgan, and Lauren Hamons, Ashlynn and Stacey Legg, Tessa Soule, Tyler, Carley and Wesley Walters; one sister, Dorothy Mawhorr; and one sister-in-law, Jean Pittenger of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Pittenger, two brothers: Carlos and Russell Pittenger, and two sisters: Mary Naomi Whited and Ruth Ann Neer Griebling.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3, at 11:00 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Willard with Pastor Ed Hunker officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, rural Mansfield. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, one hour prior to services (10 – 11 am). The family request in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution be given to The Willows Activity Fund, 1050 Neal Zick Road, Willard, OH 44890 or Stein Hospice, 1200
